SODLK can be controlled using its intuitive interface at the top. It has a power button in the center, surrounded by a set of controls for pause, play, skip and repeat tracks. Circular touch controls are used to adjust the volume with an outstretched finger.

The press touted that a touch remote should be in the box for volume and power control. However, there is no remote in the box, which is a shame and hopefully something Edifier intends to offer in the future. another feature Edifier claims for the SODLK is the ability to support TIDAL connectivity. Well, that feature isn't there yet either, but Edifier tells me that this feature will be coming in a future firmware update. That's good news because wireless speakers need to be able to stream music without relying on a smartphone as a middleman.

One neat feature of the SODLKs is that two of them can be connected wirelessly as a stereo pair, or as part of an entire home audio system that plays the same music in different rooms. I like that you can pair two SODLK speakers together, but Edifier missed a trick by not including a 3.5mm analog or Toslink input for connecting the speakers to a computer or TV.

Regarding sound quality, the Edifier SODLK is a very satisfying active speaker. It has enough power to produce powerful bass and focused treble. I like the sound it produces. I think Edifier did a good job of tuning the sound. However, I wish the Edifier Home app had more controls to shape the sound and remember the settings. It would also be nice to have some presets for webcasts to try.

Verdict: Edifier's new SODLK are well-made wireless Bluetooth speakers that look great and offer Apple AirPlay 2 and Bluetooth support. The sound is very good, and the two SODLK speakers can be connected as a stereo pair. So far, so good. However, this great speaker is let down by the poor implementation of Alexa and the lack of a built-in microphone to make it a great smart speaker. The lack of a remote is annoying, but hopefully, this is something Edifier may address in the future. There's a lot to like about this great wireless speaker, but it needs better Alexa integration, plus an improved Alexa app would help. An option for optical and analog inputs would also be nice. There's a lot to like about the SODLK from Edil, but more is needed to turn the SODLK into a real winner.
