They let you choose to remain on WOW Classic TBC Gold the vanilla realms of Naxx or move your character through the Dark Portal to the TBC expansion.

Naturally, 99% of the player base progressed to TBC since there's no new material in vanilla.

Certain characters were vanilla, which is why you have the option however I would not recommend it since the players are smaller than the average, and you can't ever switch to TBC. Furthermore, they're coming out with Season of Mastery which is basically vanilla and will be on a twelve month repeat cycle. This is likely to replace the classic era servers.

We're assuming they'll update the TBC servers to Wrath classic as they did the last expansion. There may also be the option of keeping your characters on the dead TBC servers.

I'm considering re-entry into WoW (was hugely into it from the beginning of Cataclysm). I absolutely enjoyed the game all the way through WotLK and I'm contemplating changing my mind about retail and using Classic or Classic TBC. I'm not certain the way Classic TBC works. If I make a Classic TBC character does this mean that I won't be able to utilize it for Classic TBC content. If I make an Classic TBC character and they release Classic WotLK will I not be able to use the character for Classic WotLK content? I'm not sure how to navigate between these different classic games , and would appreciate to have someone help clarify things for me.

The server that is currently in use is an old version from the classic era. It is intentionally stuck on the Naxx patches. TBC is a progress server. It's in phase 2 that includes T5 content. Although it's not made public, we'll certainly progress into Wrath at some point after TBC.

There's currently TBC Classic and Classic Era (Vanilla). They are separate clients. Presently, creating a character in one won't be available on the other. The version that you're currently working with is the one that you first used.

They updated the "Classic" client that was previously available from TBC for the initial transition from Vanilla to TBC. They introduced "Classic Era" as a download option, and made the change. All characters were transferred to "Classic Era", and both the "current" and "Classic Era" versions were deactivated. Then, you had to choose which copy you wanted to cheap WOW TBC Gold activate which would lock you out of using the other one (the majority of people were able to activate the TBC version).
