Now that Runescape is comparatively dead What do you think Jagex could have done to OSRS Gold increase the longevity of Runescape? It's difficult to imagine a game this popular falling down so fast or at all from my point of view.

My personal bias is that the shift from simple skills to more difficult and difficult to master tasks was a poor choice. Dungeoneering (when I played) was never an actual skill that could be applied outside of the realm. The ability to summon was, at the very least, feasible in many locations.

I found the emphasis on graphics, and the small updates, disappointing. Runescape was known for its quests. They missed many great opportunities. (Elf city?) (Elf city?) I think their quest system might be the best of all the MMOs I've played. However, I don’t think there's much new content that's being made available. Perhaps I'm unhappy however I think Runescape definitely could still be thriving if they had taken a different path.

They kept doing things that led to division within the fanbase instead of listening to and compromising. EoC is an example of this - while it enabled players to try things that they couldn't before, it also cost them a huge chunk of their playerbase. If you do like EoC but was it worth the loss in the game's popularity? I do not think so. They could have averted tens of thousands more members being canceled by being more open to compromise.

Another problem is that Runescape players have been ripping off their customers in order to purchase a series of failures. All of the money that was spent on Stellar Dawn (Mechscape), Thirdscape and a bunch of free iPhone apps, as well the massive fee for licenses to Buy OSRS Accounts the Transformers name, as much as the mountains of cash that went into the making of the Transformers game have all come from Runescape players.
